DFW Chapter

Letter From The President

It is with great pleasure that I write my first letter as President of the AWRT DFW Chapter!  I am very excited about the year ahead for our chapter, as well as, our industry here in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Just a little about me:  I graduated from UNT in 1997 and started my career in the Staffing Industry.  My first position in TV came in 2000 when I went to work for UPN-21 as a New Business Account Executive.  In July 2003, I started working as an AE for WFAA-TV, during which time I received my MBA from LeTourneau University.  I am still here at WFAA and I cannot ask for a better group of people to work with!

I look forward to meeting everyone and I would like to remind you to make sure your membership is current.  We have some great “members only” events coming up that you will not want to miss!  Congratulations to the following members who recently joined or renewed their membership:  Rachel Alexander – AE, WFAA-TV, Karen Coffey – AE, Camelot Communications, and Lindsey Weiner.

Please mark your calendars for our upcoming events!  We have a special luncheon THIS Thursday June 25th.  Tom Neisen of Acuity Sales Training will give us great tips on how to increase value to our current employers and how to take our lives to the next level when finding a new position.  In our recent economic conditions, you can’t afford to miss this one!  It will be at the Movie Studio Grill on 75 @ Royal.  The fun starts at 11:30am and the cost is only $20.  You can RSVP now at awrtreservations@verizon.net.  Next, we are having a Members Only Mixer on Thursday July 23rd.  At the mixer, you will be able to network with other AWRT members, join a committee, and vote on our upcoming year activities!  Finally, we will have our famous Fall Premier Night on Thursday Aug. 27th.  This is a great time to preview the new Fall Programs and see what all the Television stations are gearing up for in the near future.  Please refer to our website at www.awrt-dfw.org for all the details on these events!

Speaking of our Website, make sure to email Gina Roach, our new Website Chair, at ginaroach@verizon.net if you or someone you know is changing jobs or getting a promotion!  We want to highlight our Movers and Shakers here in DFW!  You can learn more about Gina in our Member Spotlight section this month.  Also, you can email Gina if you would like to nominate a member for the spotlight, post an open job position or have any ideas on how to make the website better!

There are many exciting opportunities for our members this year and we would like to see you more involved!  We are organizing a new Student Chapter, revamping our Newsletter and fine tuning our job postings, just to name a few!   If you would like to join one of our committees or would just like to learn more about AWRT.  Please do not hesitate to contact me!

Warmest Regards,
Veronica Willingham

Can you give us a few personal details about your life?

I was born in Indianapolis but the south has been home most of my life.  I moved to Dallas in 1989 to work at Moroch on McDonald’s.  I’m a very proud mom to one son, Jarrod, who was just accepted into the School of Fashion Design at UNT
