Can you give us a few personal details about your life?

I'm a lifelong Texan and graduated from Texas Christian University.  Married to WBAP sportscaster, Steve Lamb.  My alarm clock goes off at 2:15 a.m. weekdays. How did you get into the industry and what was your first job?
I knew I wanted to be in journalism way back in elementary school.  I was unsure about college though, so Plan B was to be a dental assistant.  Grants, loans and scholarships came through so it was off to TCU.  Internships paved the way for my first job which was at WBAP Radio. What can you tell us about your current job?
NBC 5 was one of the places I interned while in college.  A few years later, I was back and on the payroll this time.  I co-anchor the weekday morning newscast from 5-7am and am in the field reporting stories for later newscasts.
What advice would you give someone new to the industry?
Be a strong writer and learn to wear many hats.  Today's reporters provide content for multiple platforms including broadcast, print, websites and social media outlets.

Have you had a mentor?
I've not had a formal relationship with a mentor but I rely on a circle of women who advise, challenge and support me.

What has been your biggest achievement in your career thus far?
My biggest achievement is a regional Edward R Murrow Award for the 30-minute documentary Sam's Story.  It profiled a young man with a rare illness who chose to undergo brain surgery to treat it.  He was awake during the surgery and his bravery in the operating room inspires me today.

What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career?
Respect for self and others.  It's the foundation that lets me take pride in my work, collaborate with co-workers and honor those whose stories I am privileged to tell.

                                                 Congratulations Deborah!!
