Member Spotlight

How did you get into the industry and what was your first job?

After college, I cold called every television & radio stations in Nashville and left behind a business card with my contact information and my job title, at the time, ‘Unemployed Advertising Specialist’ and within a couple of weeks I was hired by WKRN (ABC affiliate).

What can you tell us about your current job?

I’ve been with Time Warner Cable for the past 3 years and it’s been a great experience to be a member of such a talented & diverse team.  My current position allows me the opportunity to interact with agencies across the country as well as local accounts.

What advice would you give someone new to the industry?

Treat your peers & clients the way you want to be treated.  Also, learn from your mistakes.  Everyone in this business makes a mistake, it’s the lesson you learn when this happens that will take you far or hold you back.

Have you had a mentor?

I’ve had so many people mentor me along the way but Norris Brannstrom, Joe Hersh, Kim Petty & Laurie Dostie have meant so much to my development as an account executive.

What has been your biggest achievement in your career thus far?

I think everyday I’m in the business is a great achievement, but probably my biggest achievement was taking the risk of moving from the number 30 market (Nashville) to the number 5 market (Dallas/Ft. Worth) without knowing anyone in the Dallas market.

What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career?

The industry is always changing and you have to be able to adapt or you’ll be left behind.

Congratulations Jamie!!
